Shaoguang Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Tsinghua University. His group designs transition-metal/main-group (M–E) bonded platforms and defines M–E cooperative activation pathways to enable challenging bond activations and tunable catalysis. The lab targets transformations of abundant small molecules, including unactivated alkanes, biomass-derived oxygenates, CO2 and N2, using macrocyclic ligands, metalloligands, multimetallic clusters, and multicenter main-group ambiphiles. Integrating advanced spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and computation, the group establishes structure–reactivity relationships and develops enzyme-mimicking catalytic reactions. He has published 55+ papers and received the 2023 National Natural Science Award (Second Prize) and the 2025 Asian Core Program Lectureship Award.
